Does anyone have any information about the choices Rev. Dr. de Sola Pool made about punctuation in his Book of Prayers? I am particularly curious about his use of periods to the exclusion of commas. Was it just a printing convention or was there more to it?(It has always bothered my Chicago Manual of Style-trained eye, but after a few Shabatot with the new Koren, it is really jumping out at me.)
Over Yom Tob, I noticed something I consider odd in both the Gaon and the De Sola Pool machzorim for Festivals. The headers on the services for The Sabbath of the Intermediate Days read, in Hebrew, as לחול המועד ושבת. I would ordinarily expect the phrase to be לשבת חול המועד. Is this a particular S&P idiom? Or a particularity of the British S&P community?
